Don’t get me started on Bill & Jackie’s house in Kildare. It’s perfection! Everything about it is tasteful & gracious. It’s a 43 roomed Palladian mansion within shouting distance of Dublin but it also feels like a very comfortable family home. The basement area has a snooker room, a sauna, and house-keepers kitchen, and a extensive wine cellar. Upstairs are the huge entertaining rooms, with walls lined with wonderful art. (Bill is a serious collector of Irish artist Pauline Bewick.)

On arrival, Bill & Jackie’s guests were treated to a fully costumed military band performance on the driveway. After drinks in the hall, they went through to the dining room, which can comfortably seat 150 guests. (I can have seven to dinner at my place as long as some one doesn’t mind perching on the piano stool !) We performed after the starters and it did occur to me that I might have to tone down Mario’s extrovert character in such esteemed company. Wrong!! The guests were such fun and immediately entered into the spirit of our high energy performance. In one very surreal moment, I caught Bill filming me on his iphone as I presented the always elegant Norma Smurfit with a red rose.

After the performance, Jackie, looking a million d$llars, asked us to stay for dinner. But we kindly refused, saying we had another engagement. Time to Say Goodbye and leave them to a fantastic evening, all in aid of “The Irish Youth Foundation”. As we left, Bill said: “YOU’RE HIRED!

How you dare you call it “My big fat gay wedding!? I’m not fat!” – attributed to Alan Hughes but not verified!

Alan and Karl’s hugely glamorous and not at all OTT wedding in the Mansion House in September was the event of the season. It was beautifully planned right down to the last detail. The room had been decorated like the Oscars and all their favourite people in the world were there to celebrate with them. When they made their entrance to the Bruno Mars smash hit “I think I want to marry you”, the whole evening lifted off and it was a roller-coaster ride until the small hours.

The Opera Waiters performed near the beginning, which was great for us because people had a big night of entertainment ahead of them, including the wonderful Mary Byrne. I think it was the element of surprise that really got everyone because they genuinely didn’t know what was going on at first when Mario the Waiter started dropping things. Derek Mooney, sitting in the front row, was just staring at me with his jaw near hitting the floor. When he copped that it was a joke, his whole face lit up. Alan & Karl were transfixed and Karl started to cry during “Nessun Dorma”. What a great song it is and if anyone knows a great song when he hears it, it’s Karl. It seemed to sum up the emotion of the day when everyone stood up as I handed Karl & Alan a bunch of red roses. Derek grabbed me on the way out: “I can get you a gig!” he said. Watch this space, but we will be doing some thing very big with Derek Mooney in December.

Couples all over the world select songs that have great meaning in their lives for the first song to be played at their wedding reception. It’s the song that the bride and groom get to dance alone to. Although hundreds of thousands of people get married every year, the same 50 or so songs appear to be used time and time again.
It seems that every music website has conducted a poll to find the top ten wedding songs. Here are our picks.

1. You’re Still the One by Shania Twain.
Despite her front page news break-up from Mutt Lange Shania has remarried and found love again. You have to wonder if she chose one of her own songs for her first dance song. A wedding is a good time to remind each other that they’re still the one. If not now, then when?

2. Everything I Do (I Do It for You) by Bryan Adams
This song stayed on the radio playlists for what felt like forever in 1991. It was perhaps slightly overplayed, but the emotional words ring true for many brides and grooms. And here’s an interesting fact: this song is linked to our number one pick, since Mutt Lunge wrote this song with singer Bryan Adams.

3. Eternal Flame by The Bangles
This rousing slow burner by writer Susanna Hoffs (with plenty of help from hit writing experts Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg) is the perfect lyric set for the wedding couple to offer to each other as they pledge a life together.

4. Woman by John Lennon
The first ex-Beatle entry provides a one sided song from the man to the woman unless it’s a lesbian wedding when it’ll apply to both people. Nevertheless, it amply portrays any man’s feelings for his woman (or should that be lady?)

5. Have I Told You Lately by Van Morrison
This song has sound marriage advice. Both sides of the couple need to quickly learn that they need to tell the other person they love them on a regular basis, not just daily for the first few weeks, but throughout the marriage.

6. If I Fell by The Beatles
This is a strange selection for a first dance song because it deals with the time before a couple falls in love. Let’s hope that’s before the wedding and the ‘I do’ ceremony even if you listen to it in your Berkline chairs.

7. From This Moment On by Shania Twain
It’s another top ten wedding song entry for Shania, who delivers this song with maximum feeling. Like the previous song, it’s one she may avoid singing to husband number two since she wrote it with husband number one. Will she include it for her fans when she starts her Las Vegas residency in 2012?

8. I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston
This Bodyguard standard remains one of the most played songs at any dance, not just at weddings. If only the wish could stay true for longer than the singer’s own marriage lasted.

9. Something by The Beatles
George Harrison’s spectacular song wasn’t written for his wife, Patti Boyd. It was just a song he wrote that happened to come together rather well, which explains its popularity at many weddings.

10. You’re Beautiful by James Blunt
Most of the songs on this list are at least 20 years old whereas this number hasn’t even reached its first decade. Sung from the man to the woman, it’s a bit one-sided, but what bride wouldn’t count this as a favorite?

Beyond the Top Ten
Oddly, Christine McVie’s Songbird, the tune she had a hit with when she played keyboards with Fleetwood Mac, appears in almost every chart, but always just outside the top ten, so for this reason it makes number eleven on our list of wedding hits.

And while there’s no place for Fairytale of New York as a first dance song, it’s always listed in the most played wedding songs. We wonder if anyone listens to the lyrics before picking it – or is there a love song in there we’ve missed?
Finally, here are eight more songs often played at weddings that didn’t make it to the top ten.

•	The Muppet Show theme
•	‘Murder on the dance floor’ by Sophie Ellis Bextor
•	‘Sex bomb’ by Tom Jones
•	‘Sexual Healing’ by Marvin Gaye
•	‘You never can tell’ Song from Pulp Fiction by Chuck Berry
•	Theme tune to Coronation Street
•	‘Lady (hear me tonight)’ by Modjo
•	‘Son of a Preacher Man’ by Dusty Springfield

Cast of characters:
Niall Morris: (formerly The Celtic Tenors) as Mario the Italian waiter
Donna Malone: (Ireland’s highly gifted young soprano) as Lia the waitressOpera Singing Waiers Ireland
Simon Morgan: (of The Keynotes) as The Banqueting Manager

The Show:
The key to the success of The OPERA Singing Waiters is the element of surprise. The performers are already amongst the guests posing as waiters pouring their wine and acting as hotel management during the food service.

Mario the Italian waiter has been pouring wine at the tables, occasionally bursting into phrases from opera for the delighted guests. “In Italy, when we pour the wine, we sing!” he explains, in broken English. Simon, as the Banqueting Manager, tells him off when ever he does this.

Then, while Simon attempts to make a general announcement to the guests over the microphone, Mario suddenly grabs hold of it and starts to sing O SOLE MIO at the top of his voice. He finishes by standing on a chair waving his napkin in the air, to much applause!

Suddenly, not willing to allow himself to be upstaged by a waiter! The Banqueting Manager decides to join in and starts to sing too. Culminating in a crescendo with both singers holding the highest note for as long as they can, but in the end there can only be one winner. Which of course is Mario the singing waiter!

Upon hearing many calls from the guests for an encore, Mario agree’s to sing the Opera classic Nella Fantasia. But, makes it known that at some point during the song he will need a female vocalist to join in with him. While singing, he approaches many of the guests, as well the as waiting staff to join in but to no avail. Until suddenly, under duress, a beautiful young waitress named Lia agrees to sing with Mario during the song. and much to the surprise of all the guests “enters” the highly gifted young Soprano Donna Malone to rapturous applause from all of the guests that will bring the house down!

The Brat Pack, from Irish Wedding Bands are identical twins Tony and Stephen Carter and lifelong friend Cormac McAllister, have been wowing packed Houses across Ireland for the last eighteen months. Once upon a time, a long time ago, Stephen and Tony were better known
as The Carter Twins, managed by the one and only Louis Walsh. They shared stages with Boyzone, The All Saints and Robbie
Williams to name a few. They released their debut single, ‘The Twelfth of Never’ in 1997, and followed it up with the hit single ‘Love Changes Everything’ Their debut album, Number One followed in 1998. The Carter Twins toured the UK and Germany
until 2002, when they decided to part ways with Louis and call it a day on their pop careers.

Roll forward 10 years! As they Evening Herald put it in 2010 “Louis Walsh’s former protégés The Carter Twins are ready to step back into the limelight once more” The Brat Packs note perfect renditions of classic Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jnr (as well As Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jnr etc) songs have made them the talk of the town. The Buzz about The Brat Pack is tangible, so much so, that there are only a few dates left to fill in the 2011 calendar and 2012 is rapidly filling up, even more so due to Stephens participation in the RTE Programme Charity ICA Bootcamp where he raised much needed funds for Irish Autism Action.

“We started off with a few small gigs to get a feeling for the music, and people’s reactions to us…” says Stephen. And the reaction has been nothing short of phenomenal! The Brat Pack are the most in-demand performers for weddings and shows in Ireland.

The Brat Pack were selected to perform at the 2011 event industry awards in Dublin’s Burlington Hotel, a very prestigious event that they were happy to support. They are regular performers on the Charity scene in Ireland and are experts in the field of Corporate Entertainment.
You’re nobody until somebody loves you , as Dean Martin sang, and you’ll find you can’t help loving Ireland’s legendary Brat Pack. Accept no substitutes. The Brat Packs songs provide the backdrop to the coolest shows in town, and when The Brat Pack hits town, everyone comes out to play!
